How Long Does It Take To Whiten My Teeth?

How your smile looks is important to the majority of us. When you’re wondering, “how can I whiten my teeth,” teeth whitening is the answer. At Eriks Dental Group, you can safely whiten your teeth with in-office teeth whitening or at-home teeth whitening options. Teeth whitening can brighten the teeth several shades after just one session. During an initial exam with Dr. Ty Eriks, DMD, he can determine if you’re a good candidate for this cosmetic dentistry treatment in Boynton Beach.

What Are Some Common Causes of Stains on The Teeth?

Some things that can contribute to teeth staining can include:

  • Caffeinated beverages, including tea, coffee, or soda
  • Smoking
  • Red wine
  • Aging
  • Certain medications

During a dental exam, we look for any existing tooth damage, decay, or signs of gum disease. Any dental issue that we find during this exam must be resolved before teeth whitening treatment can begin.

Who is Not an Ideal Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

While teeth whitening is great for many patients, there are some individuals who aren’t good candidates for this treatment, including:

  • Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Patients with fillings, implants, crowns, or dental bridges
  • Those under the age of 16
  • Patients with cavities, tooth decay, exposed roots, or gum disease
  • People with severe teeth sensitivity

How Long Does it Take For My Teeth to Become Whiter?

The time it takes for you to whiten your teeth depends on the teeth whitening option you choose.

At Eriks Dental Group, we offer two types of teeth whitening, including:

Zoom® or Britesmile® Teeth Whitening

In-office Zoom® or BriteSmile® teeth whitening: A liquid gel is applied to your teeth. A high-powered UV light quickens the whitening process for immediate results. Your teeth whitening session should take less than one hour.

Over The Counter (OTC) Teeth Whitening

At-home teeth whitening trays: You can whiten your teeth by wearing plastic trays that fit your teeth perfectly. Custom plastic trays are made just for you. Brush a liquid gel inside the tray and wear your trays for a few hours daily. After about two weeks, your teeth will be whiter.

Does It Hurt to Whiten My Teeth?

No, teeth whitening does not hurt. We always apply a barrier to protect your gums from being irritated by the products we use during teeth whitening. The only pain or discomfort you may feel after your session is tooth sensitivity, which should subside after a few days.

How Long Will My Results Last After I Whiten My Teeth?

Regular dental exams and cleanings are important to maintaining your teeth whitening results. Follow-up visits are recommended every few months to maintain your bright and white smile. Refrain from stain-causing foods or beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, or berries to keep your teeth looking white. Ultimately, your experience with teeth whitening depends on your existing shade, your oral hygiene routine, and your goals for your smile.

Does Insurance Cover Teeth Whitening?

Because teeth whitening is considered cosmetic and not medically necessary, it isn’t usually covered by an insurance company. We accept Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, cash, check, and Care Credit.
